Northern Muslim group decries divorce rate among couples

A Muslim Women Association, Sisters of Jannah, has decried the spate of divorce among Muslim couples in Northern Nigeria.

According Daily Post, the association made the observation at its Ramadan lecture on Wednesday.

The guest lecturer, Malama Khadija argued that most parents usually neglect the teachings of the Holy Quran when giving their children out in marriage and thereby lead to divorce among many couples.

She called on the couples to shun selfishness, egocentricity, autocracy, and recalcitrance. She urged them to embrace tolerance, forgiveness, and resolving differences with reason, fairness and affection so that they can experience successful marriage.

Speaking further, Malam Muhammad Suhailu Lawal emphasized that tolerance and forgiveness demonstrates the moral values and virtues inbuilt into the worship of Allah, urging couples to be kind, helpful and offer gift to their neighbours.

On her own part, the Patron of the Association, Hajiya Maryam Garba Bagel urged the couples not to be self centered but to be fair and just in order to build a good marital home.
