Gunmen abduct popular Adamawa cleric

Yet-to-be-identified gunmen have reportedly abducted a popular television preacher and motivational speaker, Reverend Mike Ochigbo, in Adamawa.

According to The PUNCH,the General Overseer of Freedom Power Chapel, was said to have been kidnapped at gunpoint out of his home in the wee hours, of Wednesday, from his residence located in Nyibango.

Another pastor by the name of John Moses was allegedly abducted on the same night.

Joseph Kuna, a local resident who requested anonymity, said he found out about the attack on the Pentecostal pastor’s home at 2 a.m. on Wednesday and that gunmen dragged him out of the house while firing randomly into the air.

This is just the most recent of multiple kidnappings for ransom that have gone unreported in the area, which shares a satellite route with the Gibson Jalo Military Cantonment, home to the 23rd Armoured Brigade.

The incident has been confirmed by the spokesperson for Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, who revealed that security operatives have been deployed to rescue the kidnapped clerics.

He said that the Commissioner of Police for the state, CP Afolabi Babatola, has dispatched officers from the Command’s Special Rapid Response Team (SRRT), Crack Squad, and other Tactical Squads to conduct a strategic and intelligence-based round-the-clock operation on locations known for criminal activity and high-risk areas in order to recover the abducted individuals, namely Rev. Mike Ochigbo and Pastor John Moses, who were taken by armed assailants.
