The Christian Association of Nigeria, has called on all the political parties and their candidates to accept the outcome of the presidential and other elections even when such results do not favour them.
CAN in a statement signed by by its president, Archibishop Daniel C. Okoh made a available to journalists in Abuja on Friday, also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to leave no stone unturned in ensuring it gives Nigerians a credible, free and fair poll. Daily Post reports
While advising the presidential aspirants not to influence the citizens to cause violence, it disclosed that election is not war and should be seen as a period of peaceful transition of power.
The Christian body urged the authorities to ensure necessary security architecture is put in place, especially in communities vulnerable to attacks and make sure all the citizens participate while especially in the vulnerable parts of the country.
“We call on all the political parties and candidates seeking elective positions during the forthcoming general elections to accept the results of the polls in good faith in the interest of Nigerians and the unity of the country,” CAN stated.
